School Profile

The expanded facility at Lakewood Heights School opened its doors in September 2002 to the families in three communities of Lakewood, Lakewood Heights and Latimore Lake. There are 12 regular classrooms serving 246 children from Kindergarten to Grade 5, with two classes of each from K - 5. To support the teaching and learning in the regular classroom, there is a large library, French Second language in a separate classroom, a Gymnasium, Art Room, Music Room, and a class where the Methods and Resource instruction is centered.

The two kindergarten classrooms contain two sinks, ample cupboard space, a computer linked to high speed Internet, a large storage area, a separate washroom, and separate entrances accessing the play areas.

The primary classes have a sink, and a pod of three computers with a printer.

Classes in the upper elementary (Grades 3 - 5) are equipped with a pod of 5 computers with a printer.

In addition to these facilities there is a stage area, fronting both the gymnasium and cafeteria, equipped with a sound system and overhead storage lighting.

The school cafeteria can accommodate approximately 130 students for lunch. Hot lunch is prepared in a modern kitchen facility containing stoves, fridges, dish washer, freezers, and warming ovens.

Community use of the school is encouraged and the gymnasium/cafertia areas are presently being used outside of school hours by scout and girl guide groups, minor sports groups, dance, martial arts groups, and after school program.

The grounds on which the school is set contains tennis courts, outside basketball courts, baseball and softball fields. A school/community committee has acquired enough funds to provide playground facilities for the students.

Lakewood Heights School is staffed by a competent caring professional staff whose main aim is the complete development of the child academically, socially, and physically in a safe happy environment with the long term goal of sending forth life long learners to take their place in our city, province and country.
